Blue Ridge Mountains Virginia

I have always been amazed at what a plain white canvas can be turned into with a little paint and inspiration. Having spent my childhood running around barefoot in the country, and now living in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, I feel a deep personal and intimate connection with nature. I am continually awed and humbled by the simple beauty of the land and people surrounding me. I feel blessed in my life to have the opportunity to combine my love for the beautiful countryside I live in, and the magical process of creating art.
My favorite medium to paint with is pastels. I love their vibrancy of color, and the purely tactile experience of using my hands to paint. I also enjoy working with oil paints. I must admit though, I have to remind myself to actually put some paint on the canvas instead of playing with mixing the beautiful colors and buttery textures. Although I prefer to paint with pastels and oils, I am always excited to learn a new technique, and prefer to keep an open mind about the direction my creativity wants to take.
My art is a celebration of my life in the country. I hope it is a reminder for people to take more walks in the woods, breathe the fresh air, and find a calm and replenishing moment in nature whenever they can. Nothing would make me happier than for my art to bring as much enjoyment to someone as I have had in creating it.
